WINES
POPOVA KULA
The Popova Kula Winery and vineyards are located on the south slopes of the Grand Hill (Veliko Brdo) west of the lovely town of Demir Kapija. While vineyards have dotted the scenic landscape since ancient times, it wasn't until the beginning of the 20th century when King Aleksander Karadjordjevic laid roots for his first vineyard that the region's wine making truly became a national treasure. With a kingdom stretching across present day Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia,Bosnia and Slovenia, and including the Adriatic coast and Panonian Valley, there were vast possibilities to choose from for the location of his vineyard. However, following the advice of trusted consultants King Aleksander chose wisely and plant ed his first vines in the micro region of Demir Kapija.

Demir Kapija has experienced much change since early inhabitants first began the regions wine making tradition. To remain faithful to the people and historical fabric of the region, our winery was named af ter an important tower, the Popova Kula (Priest's Tower) which once served as an important checkpoint on the road between Skopje and Thessaloniki. The Popova Kula along with its counterpart, the ruling Bey's Tower (Begova Kula), served as important markers of the region but have since been destroyed. In tribute we have erected a new 17m high tower adjacent to our winery and named both Popova Kula.

We are exceptionally proud of the beauty and splendor of the region and the premium quality wines we produce. We invite you to visit our winery and try our wines you will surely be amazed.
